Citrus Production Manual (Pashto Language)
Prepared by UC Davis and International Foundation of Hope. Subcontracted under USAID's Alternative Development Program.Citrus are subtropical, with growing temperatures ideally at 24-27 ºC and are intolerant
of frost. Cooler temperatures in winter and at night of 4-5 ºC are beneficial for rest,
development of acidity, and fruit color. Growers should plant early season cultivars
(fruit mature early) where there is a considerable risk of damage by cold so the crop can
be harvested before there is a possibility of losing it to a freeze. Site selection is
particularly critical in regions subject to cold winter temperatures.
