Tomatoes بادانجان رومی

Tomato Mazar

Problems and Opportunities

  • Priority problems for Afghanistan tomatoes include poor plant staking practices, poor flood irrigation, poor seed quality and genetic purity of varieties, and pests and diseases.
  • Priority opportunities include: field and crop rotation, removal of infected residues, use of resistant varieties (consider that Roma varieties are culturally preferred), and improved irrigation practices to avoid excess soil moisture)

These draft priority problems are based on feedback from Alan Walters (SIU) and Tom Brown.
